Yusei's Card of the Day 2.2.2012 - Endymion, the Master Magician
I wonder why aren't Spellcasters played more. They are strong and stable deck. Most Spellcaster decks are focused on Spell counters which are used to perform many strong combos with effects of Spellcaster monsters. And now here's master of Spell counters, Endymion!
Endymion, the Master Magician (Divine Magician Deity Endymion)
Easy summoning, recycling of Spell cards and universal destruction. This can describe Endymion pretty well. But this would be very short CotD, wouldn't it? So I will examine this sorcerer's powers a bit closer.
Summoning
Endymion can be Special summoned by removing 6 Spell counters from Field spell, Magical Citadel of Endymion (most important Spell card in Endymion deck). Spell counters can be easily accumulated when Spell cards are activated, either your and opponent's or by effects of cards such as Crusader of Endymion (hence his name) or Pitch-Black Power Stone. If Endymion is Special summoned this way, he can recycle 1 Spell card from Graveyard to hand. Useful for recovering powerful Spells such as Monster Reborn. Not many cards let you re-use Spell card, so use wisely! Endymion can also be easily Special summoned by effect of Magical Dimension by Tributing Spellcaster that is weak and/or under attack, plus you are allowed to destroy one opponent's monster. But, you're not allowed to recover Spell card.
Abilities
Endymion can destroy any card on the field, but at the cost of discarding a Spell card. I reccomend to use this effect only when most needed and discard Spell card you don't need. But this destruction can come in handy when facing troublesome cards - Gravity Bind or Messenger of Peace in Exodia, monsters with high ATK such as Dragons or just make sure and destroy face-down Traps. If you want to protect Endymion, equip him with Gagaga Shield to make him indestructable twice per turn. This can keep this magic destroyer long enough on the field to ruin opponent's strategy.
Stats
2700 is already nice attack, close to 3000. This can beat most of opponent's monsters, and if you can't destroy it through battle, just wipe it out by effect. If 2700 isn't enough, boost it with Wonder Wand to 3200. Even better is upcoming Bound Wand, which boosts Endymion's ATK by 700 (to 3400) and lets you to revive him right after destruction. Combined with Gagaga Shield, you can change Endymion into indestructabe battle machine with universal destruction effect and high ATK. Good, isn't it?
Summary
Playablity: 8/10
Stats: 8/10
Artwork: 9/10
Maybe I say similar thing in every CotD, but try Spellcasters. With some practice, they can be strong, stable deck wwith great field control - and let Endymion lead his magic army to victory!
