Number 39: Utopia
My Card of the Day 10.1.2012
It's a bit strange to don't have any brand new Exceed
monster in CotD.... So let's start with most known and used
monster of this kind: No. 39, Aspiring Emperor Hope!
Number 39: Utopia (No. 39 Aspiring Emperor Hope)
Emperor Hope is main card of main protagonist of new YGO anime series, zeXal. Both holder and card aren't as glorious and majestic as 5D's protagonist and his card (Yusei and Stardust), but this card has also something in it....
Summoning
All you need to Summon this card is to have 2 Level 4
monsters on the
field. Really, that simple! Just Overlay them and Summon this card. Some useful ways to Summon this card are
Goblindbergh,
Summoner Monk, or
Kagetokage. You can summon this card in ANY deck that runs at least a few level 4
monsters.
Abilities
Emperor Hope's
effect removes 1 Overlay unit to negate any attack. This can come in handy to withstand brutal attacks from your opponent. This can give you precious time to think up
counter-strategy. And yyou must not only negate opponent's attack - you can negate YOUR OWN attack. This seems pointless, but if you are forced to attack Exxod, Master of Guards equipped with
D2-Shield with
Battle Mania, you will thank to God (this time to Emperor) for this ability. But this nice
effect has a
backfire. When this card runs out Overlay units, it will destroy itself on next attack. This makes Hope vulnerable even to
Kuriboh. His next great weakness is new anti-Exceed
dragon,
Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. This can get rid of all of Hope's materials and return with 4000 ATK. Or this
effect makes useless Special summoning him from Graveyard (
Xyz Beborn anybody?) But this problem has solution - Overlaying Hope to Exceed summon Chaos Number 39: Aspiring Emperor Hope Ray (even if oyu have more than 1000 Life points). He will not be so vulnerable.
Stats
2500/2000. Basic stats of main characrer's ace card. But Hope is not as vulnerable to attack as
Stardust Dragon, this compensates ATK of 2500, not so sky-high, but not as bad, because most Exceeds have ATK much lower. So 2500 is very nice ATK for Exceed
monster with so easy summoning!
Summary
Playablity: 9/10
Stats: 7/10
Atrwork: 7/10
Emperor Hope can be played in ANY deck and not takes space in Main deck, has nice attack-negating
effect, so I don't see a reason why not play him!
