Once per turn, you can select 1 of your opponent's monsters that is removed from play. Until the End Phase, this card's name is treated as the selected monster's name, and this card has the same Attribute, Level, ATK and DEF as the selected monster. If this card is removed from the field while this effect is applied, remove it from play.

Rulings for ScannerYu-gi-oh! Card
Once per turn, you can select 1 of your opponent's monsters that is removed from play. Until the End Phase, this card's name is treated as the selected monster's name, and this card has the same Attribute, Level, ATK and DEF as the selected monster. If this card is removed from the field while this effect is applied, remove it from play.
"Scanner" targets 1 removed from play monster, but does not continue to target after the effect resolves.
If "Scanner" is removed from the field while it is not copying another monster (example: if it is destroyed during your opponent's turn), it is not removed from play.
If "Skill Drain" is activated after the effect of "Scanner" resolves, the effect of "Scanner" is still applied, and "Scanner" will still be removed from play if it leaves the field.
If the target of "Scanner" is no longer in the removed zone when the effect of "Scanner" resolves, then "Scanner" does not copy that monster, and "Scanner" will not be removed from play if it leaves the field.

Play tips for this YuGiOh Card
- Use D.D. Designator to declare the name of an extremely powerful monster then summon this card to mimic it.
- This card is very useful in Archetype-themed Decks, including those of the Morphtronics and the Gladiator Beasts; able to take the name of 1 of your opponent's monsters of that Archetype and can be protected by the support cards of that Archetype.
- This is a good card for Synchro Summoning for removal decks.
- Use Scanner after you've used Gandora the Dragon of Destruction since it removes the cards from play you may have removed an extremly powerful monster.
- This card can be very useful with D.D. Crow.
- This card is a wise choice for a Side Deck in mirror matches with "Gladiator Beasts".
- This card can be very useful for Zombie decks that run Book of Life, especially when facing a "Lightsworn" or Dark Armed Dragon based deck.
- Side Deck this card for any deck using Allure of Darkness or any other popular cards that require your opponent to remove from play.
- Use this card with Memory Crush King, since "Memory Crush King" can remove Synchro Monsters; Synchros tend to have high ATK, so that can be used to your advantage.
- Scanner works well with Card Ejector.
- It is good idea to use Power Pickaxe if you have Scanner in your deck.
- With Dark Core, you can use it on an opponent's monster with high ATK (eg. Five-Headed Dragon) and then use the effect of Scanner on the monster you removed from play.
