Pick up cards until you pick up a monster that can be Normal Summoned.
You can Special Summon a high-level monster like "Dark Magician" with "Reasoning", but not Special Summon-only monsters like "Gate Guardian", Ritual Monsters, etc.
If you pick up a Spirit Monster, then all picked up cards are sent to the Graveyard.
If no monster is picked up, shuffle your Deck and put it back in the Deck Zone; the effect of "Reasoning" disappears.
You cannot activate "Reasoning" if you already activated "Scapegoat" this turn.
If "Banisher of the Light" is Special Summoned with "Reasoning", the other cards picked up for "Reasoning" are sent to the Graveyard. The effect of "Banisher of the Light" is not applied until after "Reasoning" resolves.

Play tips for this YuGiOh Card
- Monsters that cannot be Normal Summoned are treated just like Spells and Traps and are skipped. Powerful monsters, such as the Sacred Beasts, Valkyrion the Magna Warrior, and all Ritual Monsters, can be dumped easily into the Graveyard. This, however, does not apply to Spirit monsters as they cannot be Special Summoned and "Reasoning"'s effect will wear off.
- Use this card with Macro Cosmos to remove cards from play and power up monsters such as Gren Maju Da Eiza or Helios Trice Megistus to high ATK.
- This card is very useful in a deck that uses The Six Samurai. The Monsters in such a deck are a variety of Levels, giving you a better than average chance, and it is an easy way to get more than one Samurai on the field.
- Combine this card with Big Eye to change around the top cards of your deck, potentially putting a monster with a ridiculously high level on top and fooling your opponent into helping you summon a powerful monster. This works especially well with Yubel, as it's one of the only monsters that is level 10 that can be Normal Summoned (thus, the chances of an opponent guessing its level is unlikely).
- This card is great in thinning out your deck, regardless if you get to Special Summon a monster or not.
