Play tips for this YuGiOh Card
- Use the Crystal Beasts as Tributes for Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder, since they can become Continuous Spell Cards when destroyed. This is also a great backup or substitute for Rainbow Dragon, as it only requires any three "Crystal Beasts" in the Spell & Trap Card Zone (as opposed to the requirement of 7 different "Crystal Beasts" for Rainbow Dragon). The downside, of course, is that the "Crystal Beasts" are destroyed in the process of summoning "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder".
- In the Crystal Beasts idea, it is great to use Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise and Crystal Beast Amethyst Cat with it. You are able to either have a hit and run strategy with "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" using the effect of Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise or a permanent 'pinger'.
- With Megamorph, you can possibly OTK given the ease of summoning this card due to Crystal Beasts and the effect of "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder", like if you attack a Sangan in attack mode. You can even give your own weaker monsters to your opponent if you cannot attack directly out via Shien's Spy, Creature Swap, or Mystic Box; "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" is a Special Summon after all, and thus gives you a chance to use your Normal Summon for those latter 2 cards, like with Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle, who has only 300 ATK.
- If Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, it's a good idea to use Monster Reincarnation to bring Hamon back to your hand to Special Summon Hamon to the field in the same turn, or later on.
- Use Destiny Board to get the Spirit Message cards out from your hand or Deck. By the time Spirit Message "A" is activated, you will have the 3 Continuous Spell Cards you will need as Tributes. However this may seem pointless as you are one spell off an instant win.
- Use Continuous Spell Cards like Messenger of Peace, Level Limit - Area B to stall your opponent, and then Tribute them for Hamon.
- If for nothing else, this card can prove to be a quick Tribute fodder, especially for ATK-based cards like Great Maju Garzett, as "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" can theoretically be summoned in one turn without taking up your Normal Summon. In the aforementioned example, you would also have a 8000 ATK monster, which may form an OTK.
- By having this card in Defense Position and a face-up Batteryman D on your side of the field, your opponent cannot attack your monsters as Batteryman D prevents attacks on all your Thunder-Type monsters except himself while "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" is the only monster your opponent can attack while in Defense Position. Since "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" is a Thunder-Type monster, Batteryman D protects all other Thunder-Type monsters and "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" protects all other monsters, a lockdown on any opposing attacks targeting your monsters will form.
- You can run multiple copies of Burden of the Mighty to severely weaken your opponent's monsters until you can draw "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" and summon it.
- If you use this card in a "Crystal Beast" Deck, use it with Crystal Beast Amethyst Cat to ping your opponent.
- This card has the highest original ATK of any Thunder-Type monster, so this card is a prime target for Makiu, the Magical Mist to basically destroy all average-ATK monsters your opponent controls.
- The Convulsion of Nature and Archfiend's Oath combo can help draw "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" faster, and also provides two of his three Tributes, since they are Continuous Spell Cards. Additionally, if they are destroyed, you can use Recycle to retrieve them, as well as any other lost Continuous Spells. Card Shuffle can also help if you know that you are about to draw a bad card when your deck is flipped upside down due to Convulsion of Nature. Recycle and Card Shuffle are also Continuous Spells, which aid in summoning "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder".
- While "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" is in Defence Position, equip Mist Body in order to create an almost lock in which the opponent can only attack "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" and he cannot be destroyed in battle thanks to Mist Body
- Add a Morphtronic Magnen to the field in Defense Position alongside "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder", and your opponent can't attack any monster at all.
- This card (in Defense Mode) is also good as a 'staller' in order to protect Fiend-Type monsters for a tribute to summon Raviel, Lord of Phantasms.
- This card becomes an excellent surprise when you run it in a Six Samurai Deck. Your opponent will never expect this card to come out. It is recommended that you run 3 copies of Gateway of the Six, 3 copies of Six Samurai United, and 1-2 copies of Solidarity. All 3 of those cards would benefit the "Six Samurai" anyway, and this would be a good option if you run out of monsters to summon and your hand/field is littered with these Spell Cards.
- It is also possible to achieve an OTK when Rainbow Dragon and this card are on the field.
- Use this card in combination with Makiu, the Magical Mist to destroy almost all monsters your opponent controls, since "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder" has 4000 ATK.
- You can use this card with Wattcube and send it to the graveyard to gain extra 1000 ATK.
- You can use this card with Wattcine to gain 4000LP from a Direct Attack by Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder.
