SDP-001 Relinquished Yu-Gi-Oh! Card
Card text
This monster can take on the ATK and DEF of 1 opponent's monster on the field (a face-down monster results in an ATK and DEF of 0). Treat the selected monster as an Equip Magic Card and use it to equip "Relinquished", you may use this effect only once per turn and can equip "Relinquished" with only 1 monster at a time. When your opponent attacks this monster with an ATK higher than "Relinquished", the equipped monster is destroyed instead of "Relinquished". Any Life Point damage you receive from the attacking monster who "Relinquished" is equipped is also inflicted on your opponent.

"Relinquished"'s effect to equip itself with a monster can only be activated during your Main Phase 1 or 2 since it is a Ignition Effect.
A monster equipped to "Relinquished" occupies a Spell & Trap Zone of the controller of "Relinquished". So if you already have 5 Spell & Trap Cards on the field you cannot activate the effect of "Relinquished". Any Equip Spell Cards equipped to the selected monster are destroyed. "Relinquished" gains the ATK and DEF of the monster equipped to it, but not the effects of an Effect Monster.
The selected monster is treated as a Monster Card when it is sent to the Graveyard, so the effects of "Sangan" or "Witch of the Black Forest" would activate, but the effect of "Mystic Tomato" would not, since it was not destroyed as a result of battle.
You can not voluntarily destroy a monster equipped to "Relinquished" but you can use "Mystical Space Typhoon" or "Emergency Provisions" to eliminate it.
"Relinquished" inflicts effect damage to your opponent whenever you take battle damage from a battle involving "Relinquished", if it is equipped with a monster. This can occur when "Relinquished" battles another Attack Position Monster, or when it attacks a Defense Position monster with DEF higher than its current ATK.

Play tips for this YuGiOh Card
- This card can be searched via Sangan, Senju of the Thousand Hands, Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands and Preparation of Rites.
- In a deck centered around this card, Contract with the Abyss could be used if abundant with level one monsters.
- Advanced Ritual Art is a preferred Ritual Spell card used to Ritual Summon "Relinquished". It requires less cards in your hand, improving hand advantage.
- You can also use Skull Servant with Advanced Ritual Art for "Relinquished" in a King of the Skull Servants deck rather than use The Lady in Wight.
- If Synchro Monsters shall be included, Flamvell Guard can be used, since it is a Tuner and has a strong DEF similar to Charcoal Inpachi and Oppressed People.
- Your "Relinquished" will not be destroyed in battle if it is equipped with an opponent's card. One tactic is to keep a "Relinquished" that is equipped in attack position, even when your opponent has a monster with a higher ATK on the field. If your opponent attacks "Relinquished", they takes the same damage as you from battle and you can absorb his stronger card on your next turn. (This tactic works very well with a Patrician of Darkness on the field. You can force your opponent to attack "Relinquished" and then send their other attacks to your other monsters.) A good card to have is The Dark Door as if they have one monster stronger than Relinquished and one with any amount of attack, they can only use one.
- Another extension of this tactic is to attack a monster with a higher ATK than your "Relinquished" while it is equipped. The equip card will be destroyed, you and your opponent both take the battle damage AND you can absorb his stronger monster during Main Phase 2. This damages your opponent and clears the board of threats.
- Though it will prevent "Relinquished"'s effect from damaging your opponent, it is advisable to have Ritual Cage on the field when using him. In the event that your opponent is able to destroy the monster equipped to "Relinquished", "Ritual Cage" will prevent you from effectively taking a direct attack. "Ritual Cage" will also stop monster effects from targeting/destroying "Relinquished", so that's another plus.
- "Relinquished's" effect is great to clear Toolbox monsters off of your opponent's side of the field. Cards such as Giant Rat and Mystic Tomato will not have their effects activated if destroyed while equipped to "Relinquished" because they were destroyed by "Relinquished's" effect, not by battle. Cards such as Sangan, however, will still have their effects because they were still sent from the field to the Graveyard.
- This card can be brought back from the Graveyard by Limit Reverse as long as it was properly summoned.
- Graceful Revival and Escape from the Dark Dimension can also be used if it was properly summoned (like if you removed "Relinquished" while in your graveyard for Dark Nephthys or Kinka-byo's effect removes "Relinquished" from play after special summoning from your graveyard to use "Escape from the Dark Dimension").
- If its sent to the Graveyard you can bring him back to your hand with Recurring Nightmare or Dark Eruption.
- Relinquished creates a strong attack-lock with Scrubbed Raid. During each Battle Phase (your opponents or your own, after you've attacked), use Scrubbed Raid to send the equipped monster to the Graveyard and end the Battle Phase. During your next Main Phase (1 or 2), activate Relinquished's effect to take another monster and equip it. This creates a -1 for your opponent every turn. Even if you equip Relinquised with a weaker or face-down monster, it doesn't matter because Scrubbed Raid will prevent all attacks and Relinquished will be equipping a new monster next turn anyway. When combined with the effect gained by tributing Djinn Releaser of Rituals, your opponent will be relying on spell/trap destruction to break the lock.
- Combining this card with Ritual Weapon and using The Dark Door can result in complete domination of the field, for if you were to take control of your enemy's strongest monster it would gain a additional 1500 ATK, which when combined with The Dark Door can give you domination in terms of attacking.
- Lava Golem can be an amusing touch in "Relinquished" decks, costing your opponent 2 monsters and giving "Relinquished" 3000 ATK.
- Volcanic Queen can be used as an alternative, as it requires your opponent to have only 1 monster as opposed to 2.
- Grinder Golem can also be used instead if your opponent doesn't have monster(s), also one of the tokens can be used for "Relinquished's" ritual summoning.
- This card works well with Opti-Camouflage Armor, using your opponent's strongest monster's strength for a direct attack. The aforementioned Lava Golem is a great way to capitalize on this.
- This combo can be furthered with Double Attack, allowing it to attack directly twice, and since Relinquished is level 1, you can practically discard anything for the cost.
- Revival cards like Monster Reborn and Limit Reverse can be used to revive "Relinquished" as long as it was properly summoned onto the field prior to being sent to the graveyard. As Relinquished is a spellcaster-type monster, Magical Exemplar can be a very efficient way to summon it from the graveyard.
- If a Ritual Spell that you can use to Ritual Summon "Relinquished" is in your Graveyard, you can use Preparation of Rites to retrieve that Ritual Spell and search this card from your Deck to allow for a quick 2nd "Relinquished".
- Djinn Releaser of Rituals works well with this card. By preventing your opponent from Special Summoning monsters, they will be limited to their 1 Normal Summon per turn, which, combined with "Relinquished"'s ability to take their monsters, will often leave them wide open to direct attacks.
- Protect this card from high-level monsters with Level Limit - Area B or Gravity Bind. Because "Relinquished" is a Level 1 monster, he will still be able to attack your opponent while "Gravity Bind" or "Level Limit - Area B" is on the field, which can damage your opponent if "Relinquished" is equipped with a monster that would not normally be able to attack under these conditions.
- Combo this card with Evocator Chevalier.
- One of this card's weaknesses include Dragunity Phalanx, and you can use the combo above to probably prevent that from happening.
- You can use the equipped card as a cost for Release Restraint Wave to give "Relinquished" a chance to absorb something stronger while also getting rid of any traps that could be harmful to "Relinquished".
- A fun if strange card you can use with "Relinquished" is Unstable Evolution. While your life points are lower, "Relinquished" will have his Original ATK change to 2400, and if you should ever get higher Life Points then it will still be on 1000 ATK, compared to the normal 0 ATK.
- Use "Relinquished" with Light of Intervention to always get a boost from whatever monster you absorb.
- Alternatively, Ceasefire can be used to flip your opponent's cards face up, and can also protect you from flip effects such as Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter or Penguin Soldier, as well as inflicting extra effect damage.
- Black Garden works really well with Relinquished since he is unaffected by its effect, ensuring that he will always be the monster with the highest attack on the field.
- If Relinquished is equipped with a suitable monster, it can be used to pay the cost for Deck Devastation Virus or Eradicator Epidemic Virus. Again, Lava Golem, Volcanic Queen and Grinder Golem can be useful here.
- Ritual Weapon is a helpful card with which to equip Relinquished, as it gives a 1500 boost in addition to that of the monster it has absorbed.
- This card can be searched via Witch of the Black Forest.
- Some cards to help "Relinquished" include:
- Metamorphosis + Scapegoat and/or Magician of Faith to bring out Thousand-Eyes Restrict
- Polymerization and Thousand-Eyes Idol to bring out "Thousand-Eyes Restrict"
- "Relinquished" Decks lost a lot of power when "Thousand-Eyes Restrict" was banned in the September 2006 List. But it still retains the basic field control aspect.
- When a small monster (or a face down monster, or no monster at all) is equipped, this card can be used with Crush Card Virus.
